a Browser to Start Surfing the Web
Surfing the Net - Going to Websites
OPENING
A BROWSER TO START SURFING THE WEB:
1. Open Internet Explorer Browser, if you haven’t
done so already, do this by:
Double Click the Internet
Explorer icon on your desktop
OR
START - PROGRAMS - INTERNET EXPLORER

3. Your BROWSER WINDOW will display something similar to
this:

THE ‘NET – GOING TO WEBSITES:
1. If there is a specific website that you'd like to go to,
type the website address into the ADDRESS bar then Press GO or Return on your
keyboard. For example, if you wanted
to go to avon.com's website, your address bar should look like this:

2. You will be brought to avon.com's website:
3. Want to go to a different website? Let's say you
wanted to visit Commonwealth of MA Official website, type in the url in the
address bar: www.state.ma.us - GO or Return on keyboard

4. You will be brought to
Commonwealth of MA Official Website:

5. click on the HOME button

6. You will be brought to
your home page, which maybe InterCape's Portal Page:

7. If you are looking for
information about something and you don't know what website to visit, use a
search engine. We provide you with many popular search engines - try them
out - http://intercape.net/#searchengines
- and see which search engine you like to use best. If you have any
questions about how to use a specific search engine, please refer to the
extensive documentation found on each of their websites.
8. For example, if you
wanted to find web sites about 'barbie' using the search engine Google, do the
following:
Go to the InterCape
Portal Page. In the Search box, type in the keyword that you are
looking for. In this example, I would type in barbie, as shown here:

9. The Google Search Engine
will show you all of the websites that have something to do with the keyword 'barbie'
and all you have to do is click on a link and you will be brought to that
website
